Most of us cannot fathom what the African American community is going through but at Latinas Power, we stand for equality. And we want to give a space to support and listen to how we can do better for our black community. In light of this, we have decided to reschedule our planned virtual table topics for this week. Instead, we will launch the Equality Virtual Table to help us in our quest to become true allies and address racism head-on.
Please join us in this conversation focus on learning and understanding how can we be better advocates in action for the African American community with the Director at Florida International University Women’s Center, Councilwoman Dr. Nashira Williams.
Nashira is a Miami native with proud Caribbean and African American families. Nashira has always engaged in conversations with Latina women of her family, and in the communities where she taught students and provided service which are coming handy as she raises her own Afro-Latina daughter!
After Nashira graduated from FSU, she worked with predominantly Latinx (Mexican & El Salvadorian), 7th graders. She returned to Miami and earned my Masters and Doctorate in Higher Education, focusing on why Black women volunteer.
The conversation will be in English and everyone is invited!
